L.A.M.P. (Ascociación Lámpara es A Mia Pies)
LAMP is a literacy group working with the Mam language group in Guatemala. They host literacy classes in the local churches using Bible-content literacy materials, train volunteer teachers, host a radio program and develop additional reading materials. They also host discipleship classes for new literates with more in-depth Bible training and promote literacy through events such as the Literacy Olympics. Funds help to develop new reading materials, print more literacy books, help pay for air time on the local radio station, etc.
A few examples of the costs for various aspects of Literacy ministry are:
Literacy / ESL Training - $35 literacy student / $50 to train a teacher
Printing local language literacy primers - $10 per set of books, $5000 for complete printing
Equip a classroom - $50 (chalkboard, chalk, duster, set of books)
