Literacy & Evangelism International Canada equips the Church to share the message
of Jesus Christ through the gift of reading and conversational English.
This calling leads us to develop Bible-content basic literacy materials (called primers) and Bible-content English as a Second Language (ESL) materials in Canada and internationally. In addition to developing materials, L.E.I. provides training in teaching as well as developing Adult Literacy or English Language ministry.
We train church leaders and missionaries to use LEI materials for evangelism, discipleship and church planting.
1 in 7 Adults world-wide cannot read and write in their local language! (World Literacy Map)
Literacy levels are connected to most of the pressing social and economic issues - unemployment, poverty, homelessness, health, rates of incarceration, social assistance and child well being.
The Bible is a locked book to those who cannot read. (Some portion of the Bible is available in 5,400 of the world's 7,000 languages)
The need to learn to speak, read and write English (ESL) is growing with more refugees.
English as a medium for International business and trade.
Jesus instructs us:
You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8 N.I.V.)
Go and make disciples of all nations...teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. (Matthew 28:19-20 N.I.V.)
Partner with local churches and mission groups to:
